The Vetala are the reanimated corpses of sacrifice victims, animated by blood sorcery. They are very fast, very strong, and have excellent hunting instincts. They have excellent night vision and are blind by day (in direct sunlight).
Being drained of blood, they are ghastly pale, and their skin is drawn and tight. Born of blood, they must always obtain more blood to stay alive. Their intelligence is mostly bestial instinct, but they can figure out simple tasks like opening doors, wielding knives, and evading those dangerous enough to threaten them. Aside from their pale skin, they are identifiable by prodigious, bestial teeth and catlike red eyes.
Since they are already dead, the Vetala are extremely difficult to kill. Burning, decapitation and massive head trauma are the most common methods. Healing magics will also harm or kill them. As creatures of evil magic, they cannot enter sacred places or travel onto hallowed ground.
