Computing Chi-square Probability with Excel

Fundamentals of Social Statistics by Adam J. McKee

To compute the probability associated with a chi-square text, use the CHIDIST function.  Given the value of chi-square and degrees of freedom, CHIDIST returns the probability.

Note that you would expect CHITEST to yield the value of chi-square.  It does not.  It returns the value of the probability associated with the chi-square and is identical to CHIDIST.

Key Terms

Chi-square, cross tabulation, observed frequency, expected frequency, nonparametric tests
