Mode

Fundamentals of Social Statistics by Adam J. McKee

The mode is the most frequently occurring score in a distribution.  The mode is especially useful in describing nominal-level data.  Nominal level data names something.  In other words, the mode can be used for either quantitative or qualitative data.  If you were researching peoples’ favorite color, for example, and more people selected blue than any other color, then blue would be the mode.

Computing the Mode

There is no formula for the mode. To obtain the mode, simply order the scores from low to high and select the number with the highest frequency.
