Fundamentals of Social Research by Adam J. McKee

Data Collection and Qualitative Designs

Social scientific research does not rely on conjecture and opinion.  It relies on empirical data; that is, information comes from observations.  This chapter will focus on how social scientists go about the process of gathering data.  As was pointed out in earlier sections, the nature of the data will depend on how the data is analyzed.  Most experimental studies require statistical analysis and are considered quantitative in nature.  Many of the methods that will be discussed in this chapter will yield qualitative information.
