A standalone scientific literature review and a research proposal are two distinct types of academic writing that serve different purposes.

A literature review is a critical analysis of existing research in a particular field or topic. The purpose of a literature review is to provide a comprehensive summary of the current state of knowledge on a topic, to identify gaps in the literature, and to suggest areas for future research. A standalone literature review does not typically involve conducting original research; instead, it synthesizes and analyzes the findings of previous studies. A literature review can be a valuable resource for researchers who want to understand the existing knowledge on a topic before designing their own studies.

A research proposal, on the other hand, is a document that outlines a plan for conducting original research. The purpose of a research proposal is to convince a funding agency, academic institution, or other stakeholders that the proposed research is important, feasible, and likely to generate valuable results. A research proposal typically includes a detailed description of the research problem, research questions or hypotheses, research design and methodology, expected outcomes, and a budget. The proposal may also include a brief review of relevant literature to contextualize the proposed research.

In summary, a standalone literature review is a comprehensive analysis of existing research in a particular field, while a research proposal is a detailed plan for conducting original research. While both types of writing may involve a review of existing literature, the focus and purpose of the two documents are different.
