The above list contains some important insights about what to do with your investments, but in reality, the list only scratches the surface. Just like a good partisan politician, you have to be a contrarian and argue against everything the other side says. The other side in the investment world is everyone who is not you. Opinions are easy to come up with, but your portfolio is too important to act on those opinions no matter who came up with them. Take nothing on authority, but give special consideration to those investors with a proven record of accomplishment of making consistently good returns over decades. Always stop to consider the quality of information. If some internet newsletter I have never heard of says something, I will not give it much attention. If Warren Buffet says it, then it deserves some serious reflection.
