Review: VacMaster VP215 Chamber Vacuum Sealer

I’m sure you’ve seen those vacuum sealer commercials on television.  Your food lasts much longer, and don’t get freezer burnt. All of the hype is true, but those home machines that use special bags don’t live up to the hype.  No matter how cheap you get those bags with the little grooves on the inside surface, they are still expensive. In addition, you can’t really seal liquid or even wet items because the fluid flows through the little grooves and into the machine.   If you put a few pounds of fish filets in the freezer a couple of times per year, then go with the cheap bag sealers that use the special bags. If you are a serious hunter, gardener, or foodie, do yourself a favor and get a chamber vacuum system from the start.  Chamber systems are the ones used by professional butchers and the ones that you see on cooking shows. The machines are expensive, but the bags are far, far cheaper than the special “grooved” ones, and that cost savings alone will pay for the machine if you do a lot of food packaging.

The VacMaster VP215 Chamber Vacuum Sealer seems to be a good value when you compare the price to quality in a decidedly expensive product space.  There are several different bag products available from different companies. Since you can control both the vacuum strength and the sealer temperature and duration, you’ll likely find many applications for this machine that you hadn’t previously thought of.

All in all, I give the VacMaster VP215 Chamber Vacuum Sealer five stars out of five. It is well designed and well built.
