Robbery (according to the UCR) is “The taking or attempting to take anything of value from the care, custody, or control of a person or persons by force or threat of force or violence and/or by putting the victim in fear.”

At common law, robbery was the taking of the property of another, with the intent to permanently deprive the person of that property, by means of force or fear.
