Doc's CJ Glossary by Adam J. McKee
Course: Community Corrections

A probationer is an individual who has been convicted of a crime and sentenced to a probation period, during which they must comply with specific conditions and restrictions imposed by the court.

The conditions of probation may include regular check-ins with a probation officer, drug testing, community service, and restrictions on travel and association with certain individuals. Probation is a form of alternative sentencing that allows individuals to avoid incarceration while still being held accountable for their actions and monitored for compliance with the conditions of their sentence.
