Infanticide refers to intentionally killing an infant or young child, usually less than one-year-old.

It is a form of homicide and is considered a serious crime in most countries. A parent or caregiver may commit infanticide for various reasons, such as financial difficulties, unwanted pregnancy, mental illness, or a desire to conceal an illegitimate birth. Infanticide can devastate families and communities and is considered a grave moral offense.
