Doc's CJ Glossary by Adam J. McKee
Course: Introduction / Policing

The clearance rate is the proportion of crimes known to the police that are solved (an arrest is made) versus all crimes known to the police.

The clearance rate is computed by simply dividing the number of crimes that are cleared by the total number of crimes recorded. Clearance rates are often presented as a percentage.
